OCEANSIDE, Calif. – At 105 years old, an Oceanside woman will become the oldest person to toss the ceremonial first pitch at a Padres game when she takes the field Sunday.

Agnes McKee is considered one of the oldest residents of San Diego County and shows no signs of slowing down.

In honor of her big birthday, McKee was chosen to throw the first pitch at the Padres game on July 20.

“I am very honored to do this, it’s exciting and I hope I can get through it,” said McKee, who weighs around 90 pounds and stands just shy of 5 feet. “I was really glad I got up this morning, I was afraid I wouldn’t.”

For the last several months, in between bridge and bingo games, McKee said she has been practicing for the perfect underarm pitch.

“When this happened I tried to learn some of the names of the ball players in case somebody asks me that,” said McKee. “My husband played baseball and we went to many games when we lived in Cleveland.”

McKee credits her optimism and positive outlook on her milestone achievement.

“My main thing is to enjoy everyday as it comes along, don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet,” said McKee.

The small-town girl from Indiana will spend Wednesday night alongside Mayor Kevin Faulconer and the San Diego Fire Department celebrating her 105th birthday.
