DEL MAR, Calif. -- A 76-year-old man was killed Monday and a 28-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were hospitalized with major injuries suffered in a multiple-vehicle traffic crash in Del Mar.
The collision was reported just after 4 p.m. in the 200 block of Camino Del Mar, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
A preliminary investigation determined the 76-year-old man was driving a Honda CRV northbound on Camino Del Mar and crossed into the southbound lanes, where his vehicle sideswiped a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 39-year-old woman, then continued southbound and struck a Toyota Previa head on with the man and woman inside, authorities said.
The driver of the CRV was pronounced dead at the scene. The man and woman in the Previa were taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with major injuries. The woman in the Rav4 was not hurt, the authorities said.
The names of the victims were not immediately available.
Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.
Camino Del Mar was closed to traffic following the fatal crash, the sheriff's department reported.
