LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the coronavirus, prison officials told a New York state newspaper Sunday, but lawyers and a publicist for the disgraced film producer said they have not been notified and cannot confirm the report.

The Niagara Gazette reported the positive test, citing “officials connected to the state prison system” it did not name.

It is believed Weinstein was positive for the virus when he entered the state prison system Wednesday from Rikers Island, a New York City jail, “officials familiar with his situation,” told the Niagara Gazette.

The Los Angeles Times reported attorneys for Weinstein, in both New York and Southern California, and his publicist, have said they have not been notified and could not confirm the report.

Weinstein, who turned 68 Thursday, is serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault. He is also facing serious charges in Los Angeles that could land him a longer prison sentence.
