Victoria Johnson has been a broadcast journalist since 2006. Born and raised in San Diego, she feels fortunate to be able to work in her hometown. Since October 2015, she has delivered the forecast as the weekend weather anchor and reported feature stories for FOX 5 San Diego.
She became interested in pursuing a career in TV news while earning her degree in Communication from the University of San Diego. During college, she interned at KFMB-TV, the San Diego CBS affiliate, as the entertainment segment intern where she wrote and produced news stories and interviewed Hollywood celebrities including Ben Affleck, Dakota Fanning and Johnny Knoxville.
After graduating from USD, she began her professional career at Clear Channel’s Total Traffic Network as the airborne reporter and photographer in Chopper 8 for the weekday morning show at KFMB-TV.
For nearly seven years, she reported real time traffic conditions and breaking news from a helicopter. She enjoyed watching the daily sunrise and filming aerial video. She was able to shoot for National Geographic Channel’s 2010 Great Migrations nature documentary miniseries and “Secrets de la Isla Guadelupe” a 2010 Blue Ocean Film Festival finalist.
When she wasn’t flying in Chopper 8, she continued her education, earning a certificate of achievement in TV News from San Diego City College’s Radio and TV Department.
She developed a passion for aviation and provided nationwide media coverage for the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, during their 2012 season. Her most memorable experiences were flying in the Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet and C-130 Hercules “Fat Albert,” and skydiving the with the U.S. Navy’s Parachute Team, the “Leap Frogs.”
She later moved to San Luis Obispo, Calif. where she wore many hats on the weekend as the news and weather anchor, executive producer and newsroom manager for KSBY-TV, the NBC affiliate. She also was a reporter who filmed and edited her own stories as a multimedia journalist.
After living on the Central Coast, she returned to her hometown and has been a part of the FOX 5 family ever since. She represented FOX 5 San Diego as the emcee for the San Diego Chargers NFL Draft day event and looks forward to each new and exciting day on the job.
Her passions include aviation, travel and any adventure that comes her way.
