    SAN DIEGO — Bishop Cirilo Flores died Saturday after a battle with cancer, San Diego’s Catholic diocese announced. Bishop Flores, 65, died at 2:47 p.m. today at the Catholic-run Nazareth House in Mission Valley where he was receiving care for prostate cancer, the diocese said in a statement.     TORREY PINES – San Diego lifeguards rescued a man Saturday afternoon. Lifeguards got the call for the rescue just after 3pm. A helicopter was on stand-by but was not needed. Lifeguards believe the man suffered a heat related illness and was taken to a local hospital.

    ALPINE – Fire crews worked Saturday to extinguish four brush fires along Interstate 8 between Alpine and Pine Valley that may have been sparked by a vehicle’s faulty catalytic converter.     SAN DIEGO – The annual Monster Jam and motocross events in San Diego will move to Petco Park from Qualcomm Stadium next year, the organizers announced Friday. Feld Motor Sports said its track construction crew will pour more than 7,500 tons of dirt into Petco Park to transform the stadium into a specialized venue for its monster truck shows and motorcycle races, and work with groundskeepers to restore the field to baseball playing condition before opening day.

    VISTA – A 68-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle at a Vista intersection, sheriff’s officials said Saturday. The man was struck by a Ford sedan about 10:20 p.m. Friday as he was attempting to cross Santa Fe Avenue at Angeles Vista Drive, according to sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Werner.
