Since arriving in San Diego in 2008, Heather Lake has covered some of the city’s largest events including Comic-Con and opening day at the Del Mar Races. Heather’s high energy and zest for life gives San Diego a reason to smile as they start their day.

Before heading to the west coast, Heather was an anchor, reporter and bureau chief at WCTI in Jacksonville, North Carolina, working closely with the military community at Camp Lejeune. Many of her most memorable assignments include working alongside Hope for The Warriors as the nonprofit granted “warrior wishes” to many of our service men and women.

Heather started her career in journalism in Orlando, Florida at WESH, where she covered nearly a dozen hurricanes and tropical storms was a news writer and producer.

Raised in Orlando, Heather spent most of her teen years as a cast member at one of the many amusement parks. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.

If you don’t catch Heather up and early on the morning show, you may see her swimming, running or biking. She is an active member of the Triathlon Club of San Diego and US Crossfit in Encinitas and spends most of her time training for Ironman distance triathlons.

Which professional sport would you play and why? Definitely tennis. I have loved the sport since high school and was too stubborn to focus on my talent. I should have listened dad ☺

If you were not in TV news, what profession would you choose? Possibly a kindergarten teacher, although it would be tough to choose. I’ve wanted to be in TV news since elementary school.

What’s something that no one knows about you? Most people wouldn’t know that I have a goal to run a marathon in every state during my lifetime. Five down, 45 to go!

Dinner for five, who would you invite (dead or alive)? Lance Armstrong, Barbara Walters, Dean Karnazes, my sister Jessica and Britney Spears (for my sister).
