Chris Murphy joins the FOX 5 Morning News as anchor of the 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. newscast with Kristina Audencial.
Chris returns to San Diego after co-anchoring FOX 29 “Good Day Philadelphia” for three years. Chris was previously a weekend anchor and reporter for KGTV and was also a reporter for KNSD.
Chris has held news anchor and reporter positions at various stations, including KGW and KPTV in Portland, KRON in San Francisco, KTVN in Reno and KIEM in Eureka. Earlier in his career, Chris hosted “Travel Gear” on The Travel Channel. He began his career as a newsroom intern for KGET in Bakersfield.
On weekends you’ll find Chris enjoying time with his two children or perhaps on the golf course. Disneyland may be known as the happiest place on Earth, but don’t tell that to Chris — Torrey Pines is his haven, even though his golf shots may look a little “Goofy.”
A graduate of the University of California right here in San Diego, Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications.
Which professional sport would you play and why? Golf, because I can compete into my 60s, and you can’t do that in football.
If you were not in TV news, what profession would you choose? See answer to question above.
What’s something that no one knows about you? Whenever the song “Abacab” by Genesis comes on the radio I CRANK IT UP.
Dinner for five, who would you invite (dead or alive)? Jesus Christ and his four guests. I would be fascinated by who he invited and what they talked about (and ordered off the menu). If Jesus had to cancel at the last minute, I would invite Bruce Springsteen, Noam Chomsky, Vin Scully, Bill Clinton and Alice Waters (hopefully she hosts at her restaurant). Now, those would be some stories!
