Armed robber yanks teller by the hair before demanding cash

SAN DIEGO — Police were searching for an armed thief who robbed a credit union near Mira Mesa Wednesday morning.

The robbery was reported shortly after 9:50 a.m. at the Cal Coast Credit Union branch at 9825 Mira Mesa Blvd., just east of Interstate 15, San Diego police Sgt. Matt Botkin said.

San Diego police said a man who had his face covered by a black ski mask jumped over a counter and grabbed one teller by the hair, pulling her to the ground before dragging her to the building’s vault. The other tellers then handed over an undisclosed amount of money, which the man put inside a recycling bin he grabbed near the vault before fleeing the building and leaving in a white Chevy Z71 pickup truck.

Police have described the robber as a 5’5″ black man weighing about 150 pounds with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a blue zip-up hoodie, dark gloves, dark pants and black shoes. He was armed with a handgun at the time of the robbery.
