SAN DIEGO -- Investigators Sunday were looking into the circumstances surrounding Saturday's officer-involved shooting in the North Park neighborhood.

Police shot at a 17-year-old boy suspected of stealing a vehicle at gunpoint at 9:20 p.m. Saturday near Maryland Street and Madison Avenue, authorities said.

"The man approached a female at gunpoint and took a white Subaru," said Lt. Martha Sainz with the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit. "Officers located it and attempted to make a stop. The man led officers on a pursuit."

The teen refused officer commands and rammed police cars while pointing a handgun at officers, Lt. Sainz added.

That's when officers fired their guns. They did not hit him, Lt. Sainz said. The gunshots were fired near Howard Avenue and Arizona Street at 9:30 p.m.

Nobody was injured in the shooting. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation after ramming into the patrol cars.
