OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- Several vehicles were torched when a fire began burning in Oceanside west of Bonsall and state Route 76 Friday afternoon.

The North County Fire Protection District said the fire was spotted along the 600 block of Sleeping Indian Road around 3 p.m.

One RV initially caught fire for unknown reasons and spread to two or three others, officials said. The fire later spread to 15 to 20 abandoned cars on the property and some nearby plants and mulch, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

Three people were rescued in the fire and at least one person was taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries, officials said. The extent of the victim's injuries was not immediately known, though officials did say the injuries did not require treatment at a burn center.

By 6 p.m., fire officials said the flames were fully contained and no hazardous fumes were impacting the area.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
