SAN DIEGO -- The Republican Party of San Diego County won't make an endorsement in the 50th Congressional District race, it was decided following a candidate forum Monday evening.

The forum featured former Rep. Darrell Issa, Sen Brian Jones, R-Santee, former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine.

According to organizers, 1,200 people RSVP'd to the event at the Town and Country Hotel.

The candidates answered questions about immigration and border security, gun ownership and abortion.

Some in the audience held signs supporting incumbent Rep. Hunter, despite dozens of charges against the congressman for allegedly misusing campaign funds. Hunter is scheduled to go to trial in January.

After listening to the candidates, members of the party went into a closed session to vote on which candidate to endorse. After discussion, none of the candidates received two-thirds of the vote and none of the candidates will be endorsed.
