Small earthquake strikes near Borrego Springs

SAN DIEGO — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.1 hit near Borrego Springs Sunday, but no damage was immediately reported.

The temblor struck around 8:55 p.m. roughly 5.2 miles north-northwest of Borrego Springs, about 27.8 miles south of Palm Desert at a depth of about six kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
