Teen gunned down in drive-by shooting

SAN DIEGO -- A 17-year-old boy was hurt in a drive-by shooting in Barrio Logan late Monday morning.

Shots were fired on Sampson Street at Logan Avenue, near Chicano Park and Interstate 5 around 11:30 a.m.

Police said the boy was walking with friends when a dark-colored sedan passed them and rolled to a stop nearby. A passenger then got out of the car and, without saying anything, fired several shots at the group, wounding a 17-year-old boy in the side, Officer Robert Heims said.

The teenager was rushed to the hospital, San Diego Police Department confirmed.

SDPD said the boy suffered life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition.

Witnesses told police that the gunman was a Latino who appeared to be in his early 20s. He get back into the car, which drove away.

It was unknown if the shooting is gang-related.
