Navy jet crashes near SoCal base

CHINA LAKE, Calif. — A U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet jet crashed Wednesday near Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in California, according to U.S. Naval Air Forces.

The status of the pilot is unknown and search and rescue efforts are currently underway.

Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake is located about 125 miles north of Los Angeles, in Ridgecrest, which was recently at the center of several strong earthquakes.
