VISTA, Calif. -- A father stopped a man trying to kidnap his 2-year-old daughter from their home around 10:30 Monday night, authorities said.
The father told deputies he saw a man carrying his child out of the house and confronted him. The man left the child, ran away and remains on the loose. He is said to be around six feet tall and 180 pounds, wearing dark clothes and white shoes.
"Oh my gosh that's scary,” a neighbor said. “It makes you really realize because we do leave our doors and windows and everything open. We don't have any kids so we're lucky -- but you know I feel bad for all the other parents."
The neighbor, who didn’t want to give her name, told FOX 5 she’s lived in the area for years and was unaware of something like this happening before.
"I think a lot of the younger families that move in here move here because they think it's a safe neighborhood,” she said. “You don’t think you have to worry about something like that -- so yeah, that's scary."
Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department at 858-565-5200.
