SAN DIEGO -- Shoppers at a Walmart in Serra Mesa were forced to evacuate when a fire broke out Friday night.

The blaze started just before 9 p.m. in one of the aisles in the store located in the 3300 block of Murphy Canyon Road, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Flames were put out by employees before firefighters arrived, but the store was evacuated due to heavy, dense smoke. No injuries were reported.

One person who was inside the store told FOX 5 that the fire started in the rug aisle and rugs and oil lamps were burning. Investigators did not confirm that information and were still looking into the cause of the blaze.

It was not known when the store would reopen.
