Train kills pedestrian in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A train struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday on a stretch of tracks near Buccaneer Beach.

The rail fatality off the 1400 block of South Coast Highway in Oceanside occurred about noon, according to sheriff’s Lt. David Buether.

The engineer of a southbound Amtrak train saw woman between the ages of 40 and 50 years old walking southbound along the railroad ties just outside of the track, according to sheriff’s Deputy J. Burk. The train sounded its horn and put on its emergency brakes but still hit the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
