SAN DIEGO -- A water main ruptured Tuesday near National City, leaving about 20 homes without water.

The water main break, located at 4500 block of Delta Street, could potentially turn into a sinkhole, according to the San Diego Police Department.

A similar occurrence in January when a 12-inch water line broke in the same neighborhood. 30 customers were left without water service, while several homes flooded and a pickup truck got stuck in a sinkhole.

Tuesday's break caused 20 residences to lose water.

Miguel Mendez's home is located downhill from where the break happened. He said both this break and the one in January have caused his backyard to flood.

Mendez added he's been attempting to work with the city to improve the sidewalk in front of his home to better curb the water when it rushes down the street.

Water was restored to all customers by 8:30  a.m. Wednesday.
