ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- Police are investigating the connection between a woman's body discovered in a burning SUV in Escondido Thursday and a second woman found dead at a home registered to the vehicle.

The fire crew was sent to Country Club Drive near Kauana Loa Drive in unincorporated Escondido after a 911 operator received a call reporting a burning vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. After they put out the flames, they discovered the woman's body.

A sheriff's bomb and arson team were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Homicide detectives were also investigating.

Meanwhile, police tracked the SUV's license plate to a nearby home on 11th Avenue. When officers arrived at the house, they discovered a second woman's body, the Escondido Police Department told FOX 5. Police did not immediately release details about the woman's injuries, but they did say they're investigating her death as a murder.

Investigators believe the women's deaths are related.

As of 8 a.m., the first woman's body remained in the white SUV while investigators waited for technicians from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office to arrive. Authorities said County Club Drive just west of Stone Brewing would be closed for hours during the investigation.
