Quake shakes Riverside County desert

THOUSAND PALMS — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.8 struck the desert of Riverside County early Wednesday afternoon.

The quake shook the Thousand Palms area — about 14 miles northeast of Palm Springs — around 12:20 p.m., according to the US Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of damage.
