Crews battle fire at Camp Pendleton

SAN DIEGO — A fire at Camp Pendleton grew to 18 acres Wednesday, according to base officials.

The fire broke out near the Hotel Training Area in the eastern portion of the base.

Camp Pendleton Fire Department units responded to battle the blaze. Camp officials said there was no threat to buildings or people in the surrounding area as of late morning.

As of mid-afternoon, the flames had scorched about 18 acres, according to Camp Pendleton public affairs. Cal Fire crews were helping military firefighters extinguish the blaze, the state agency reported.
