SAN DIEGO — Fire crews rushed to the scene of a house fire in Mt. Hope early Sunday evening, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.

The blaze broke out in the attic of a house near 40th and Market streets just after 6 p.m.

SDFD’s Monica Munoz told FOX 5 that the single-story home was fully involved when units arrived, but that no one was inside the house.

It took crews about 20 minutes to knock down the flames, and no one was injured in the effort.

Investigators were called to the scene and determined the fire started because of “discarded smoking materials.”

Damage to the building was estimated at $200,000.
