SAN DIEGO - A mother and her son were in the hospital after crashing into several parked cars in Oak Park early Friday morning, police said.

San Diego police said a woman crashed her white Chevy sedan into cars parked along College Avenue Friday at 12:15 a.m.  The woman, who is in her 30s, and her 10-year-old son were taken to UCSD Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

Investigators said the car was swerving before losing control, crashing into at least five vehicles.

A man who lives nearby ran out to help after hearing the crash.

"The woman was trapped by her legs, leaning over," he said. "We tried helping her out, but she moved around and ended up freeing herself in the end."

The man told FOX 5 the driver appeared drunk.

"I could smell [alcohol] when I opened the door. She was disoriented and was looking for her family and her son," he said.

It was unknown if the unidentified woman would face DUI charges.
