Brush fire burns near I-15 in Escondido

ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- Firefighters extinguised a small brush fire near Interstate 15 at Deer Springs Road in Escondido Thursday.

By 3:45 p.m., firefighters had stopped the forward rate of spread of the fire, dubbed the Gopher Fire, at three acres.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Cal Fire reported the fire was fully contained at four acres.

Northbound Interstate 15 at Deer Springs Road was backed up to El Norte Parkway for several hours. Authorities closed Champagne Boulevard from Deer Springs Road to Champagne Village Drive.
