14 cats rescued from apartment fire

SAN DIEGO — Two people were left homeless and 14 cats were rescued after a fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment in the Golden Hill area Tuesday.

The blaze erupted around 1:15 p.m. in the two-story building in the 1100 block of 34th Street, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

There were no injuries.

The cats will be taken to animal control.
