OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- The Oceanside City Council voted 5-0 Wednesday night to raise parking fees in lots and on meters along the beach and harbor.
Fees at meters will go up by 50 cents an hour. At some lots, depending on location and time of the year, the hike is from $1 to $7 an hour or per day.
The city says it needs the extra money to help maintain the pier, bathrooms and other public common areas and that it can generate an extra $900,000 in revenue.
Some residents don't agree with paying more to park at the beach and harbor.
"We already pay a lot around here...raising the prices probably brings another burden on us, it's more money, we're trying to save money," said Oceanside resident Casey Allen.
The changes will go into effect by June 1.
