San Diego’s most popular dog names of 2016 revealed
SAN DIEGO – What do Thor, Charger and Pokemon Go have in common? They inspired pet owners in 2016.
Rover.com, an online network of dog sitters and walkers, dug into its nationwide database to determine the top dog names and trends of 2016. They uncovered some surprising naming trends from Pokemon Go to powerful women.
The San Diego-specific data results were as follows:
Top 3 Male Names: Max, Buddy and Charlie
Top 3 Female Names: Bella, Lucy and Daisy
San Diegans also went with football-themed names like Charger and superhero names Batman and Thor. Animal-inspired dog names like Dingo, Moose and Tiger were trendy, too.
Overall, pet parents from across the U.S. didn’t stray from the classics. According to Rover, 28 percent of all dog names are decidedly human.

“In a year that saw the nomination of the first major-party female presidential candidate, names inspired by powerful women climbed over 13%,” Rover stated. Coco Chanel, Beyonce, Betty White, Madonna and Eleanor Roosevelt topped the list.
