SAN DIEGO – A San Diego County Sheriff Department’s bus carrying 31 prisoners and two sheriff’s deputies was involved in a crash on state Route 163 Wednesday during the afternoon commute.

The driver of a BMW didn’t notice that traffic had slowed down and rear-ended a Honda. The force of the collision pushed the Honda in front of the bus, causing a second crash.

Nobody involved in the crash was seriously injured. One deputy received a minor hand injury during the collision.

The inmates were transferred to a second bus for transportation to their final destination, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. N. Rowley.

CHP is conducting a traffic investigation.
