Suspected drunk driver smashes into auto repair store

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. -- A suspected drunk driver clipped a fire hydrant before smashing into the Firestone Tire and Auto Center in National City overnight.

Police were called to Plaza Boulevard and Euclid Avenue just after midnight.

Officers found a geyser of water shooting into the air and the car stuck under a smashed bay door.

Crews needed about 35 minutes to shut off the hydrant.

The driver, who faces DUI charges, was taken to a hospital but is expected to be okay.
