Dump truck overturns on freeway connector in La Mesa

LA MESA, Calif. — A dump truck carrying hot asphalt overturned Monday morning, spilling its load and blocking a freeway connector.

The truck was on the transition ramp from northbound state Route 125 to westbound Interstate 8 just after 10 a.m. when it rolled over, according to the California Highway Patrol. The truck and spilled asphalt completely blocked the ramp, trapping several cars behind it before the CHP could close the entrance to the ramp.

As of 11:45 p.m., a big-rig tow truck had arrived at the accident scene, but the truck was still on its side.

The CHP did not have an estimate on when the ramp would reopen.
