SAN DIEGO -- A Carmel Valley woman was bitten by a bobcat after mistaking it for a house cat Monday.

The woman thought she ran over a cat on El Camino Real near Derby Downs Road around 9:30 p.m.  She was bitten by the bobcat after she stopped to check on the injured animal.

The woman was treated at the scene. The female bobcat was sedated and then euthanized at the scene because of her injuries.  Animal Control is now testing the animal for rabies.
