VISTA, Calif. -- The brand new $3.7 million Vista High School stadium  officially opened the Panthers football season Thursday.

The Dick Haines Memorial Stadium boasts a new concession stand, field, press box and towering grand stands.

“He loved vista High School… It really was his whole life,” said Martha Haines, widow of Coach Haines.

In the Panthers season opener they lost to the San Marcos Knights, but fans still said it was one of the best football games in recent memory.

“It’s all about the kids...When they show up at school they have something to be proud of and that’s amazing,” said Vista principal Anthony Barela.
