[STORY UPDATED: This story previously reported that a woman allegedly stole a package from a Chula Vista porch.]
CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Video of a woman who appeared to be stealing a delivered package off the porch of a home in Chula Vista was a misunderstanding, officials said Monday.
The woman, who was wearing an MTS uniform, was seen taking a package off the porch Friday and then running from the home.
San Diego Metropolitan Transit System officials told FOX 5 that the woman in the video took the package because it was addressed to her. Apparently, the package was delivered to the wrong house and her FedEx tracking informed her where it was located.
“We get packages here all the time, Amazon, Blue Apron and nothing’s ever been taken before this is a first,” said homeowner Mauricio Perez. “Luckily it wasn’t a package meant for me.”
The homeowner had installed a RING doorbell security camera, which captured the woman.
“Its pretty much what it’s kind of meant for so you can know who’s at the front door. You can tell if somebody’s trying to be suspicious trying to break in. You have their face and you can give it to the authorities. That’s a big benefit to this doorbell.”
“[Fed-Ex) mentioned that he accidentally dropped off a package here and if I could return it to him, but I said there was no package in the front," said Perez. “Sure enough at 2:42 there was somebody who came to the door took the package and ran.”
Fed-Ex has obtained the video.
