SAN DIEGO -- An argument between housemates ended when one of the men shot the other three times Monday in Ocean Beach, police said.

Neighbor Tony George told FOX 5 he heard four loud shots and moments later he recognized a man's cries for help.

"I could hear 'Help me, help me!'" said George, who lives just a few doors down from where the shooting took place in the 2100 block of Ebers Street.

After being shot, the victim ran from the home, leaving a trail of blood on the sidewalk. Neighbors found him a short time later in an alley. Police say he had been shot three times.  Two neighbors, who are a nurse and an ex-Navy corpsmen, aided the man until paramedics arrived, police said.

The victim was taken to UCSD Medical Center with non-life threatening injuuries.

The shooting was reported at about 5 p.m.  Police say a man called to say that he shot someone in self-defense.  Investigators say the two had been arguing for most of the day inside a home they share with a woman who witnessed the shooting. The woman is thought to be the girlfriend of the 32-year-old victim and the sister of the 40-year-old shooting suspect.

The woman was questioned by police extensively and for the time being has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

The suspect was arrested and the circumstance of the shooting remained under investigation.
