La Mesa girl covers DNC for Time Magazine

LA MESA, Calif.  - Olivia Branan is a middle schooler and now is one of Time Magazine`s kid reporters. Her most recent assignment – the Democratic National Convention.

Branan is one of a handful of talented teens working for Time Magazine`s kid edition.  The famous publication launched a national contest last year. Branan wrote two articles and put an audition tape together.

A year later, the 12-year-old Parkway Middle Schooler handled covering the DNC like a pro. She interviewed one of her journalistic idols NBC's political reporter Kelly O'Donnell.

"She's a really well respected reporter. It's such an honor interviewing her and she was really sweet," the La Mesa teenager told FOX 5.

While at the convention, Branan also wrote a daily recap of the events online.

Despite having fun covering the major political event, Branan said her favorite experience as a Time Magazine kid reporter was during the Kid's Choice Awards. She was able to interview country music star Blake Shelton.
