SAN DIEGO — Alaska Airlines announced Thursday that it will begin flying nonstop from San Diego to Newark, New Jersey, in November.

According to the airline, the daily flight operated by a Boeing 737 will launch Nov. 21, leaving Lindbergh Field at 9:55 a.m. Pacific Time and arriving in Newark at 5:55 p.m. Eastern Time. The return flight will depart Newark at 7 p.m. and get into San Diego at 10 p.m.

“We are pleased Alaska Airlines continues its network expansion in San Diego by adding flights to the New York/Newark metropolitan area,” said Hampton Brown, San Diego International Airport’s director of air service development.

“Alaska Airlines’ new service to Newark, New Jersey will provide a much- needed nonstop option for accessing the New York City area’s west side,” Brown said. “With Newark’s efficient public transport links, travelers will be able to fly from downtown San Diego and reach the center of Manhattan in about six hours.”

The destination will be the third from San Diego to the East Coast on Alaska, joining Boston and Orlando.

United Airlines also offers nonstop service between San Diego and Newark, while American, Delta and JetBlue fly nonstop to John F. Kennedy International Airport in the New York City borough of Queens.
