LOS ANGELES — Three people died and four others were injured after a small boat capsized Saturday morning off Catalina Island.

Around 9:30 a.m., the incident was reported to the U.S. Coast Guard Los Angeles-Long Beach center when a 15-foot skiff with seven people overturned near Salta Verde Point, located on the backside of the island, KTLA reported.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the boat apparently capsized after being hit by two waves.

A good Samaritan rescued two boaters and reported seeing another person on the rocks, who was rescued by a helicopter. Another person was found by a Catalina Island Conservancy officer. The four survivors were taken to local hospitals on the mainland.

The three deceased people were recovered from the water by baywatch officials.
