One teen stabbed, another loses finger in fight at high school beach party

LA JOLLA, Calif. — A young man faces charges Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a 14-year-old boy and slashing his face during a fight at a high school party at La Jolla Shores.

The altercation between the boy and the 18-year-old suspect, identified by Poway Unified School District official as Abdul Karim Juma, broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday as a group of students from Poway High School gathered at the popular beach spot, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The victim, who was from San Diego, suffered a stab wound to his back and a cut across his cheek. One of the suspect’s fingers was dismembered during the fight. Delimitros said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Juma was later arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the officer.

Juma attended Abraxas High School, known as a continuation school, according to PUSD official. Although, the official couldn’t confirm which school the victim attended.
