SAN DIEGO – Frustrated is an understatement when it comes to describing how San Diego Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler feels about his team.

During a radio interview with Mighty 1090 AM Wednesday, Fowler called his team "miserable failures" when it comes to their season record. He went on to say their performance is "embarrassing."

Fowler's comments came a day after the Padres took a beating from the Mariners (16-4) and a seven-game road trip with only one win.

"It's been embarrassing. I don't know how else to put it," Fowler said. "Our performance on the road trip, 1-7, was pathetic."

Going into Wednesday's home game at Petco Park, the team has a record of 20-33 and is in last place in the National League West.

Fowler singled out pitcher James Shields' performance in Tuesday's disappointing loss.

"To have a starter like Shields perform as poorly as he did yesterday is an embarrassment to the team, an embarrassment to him," Fowler said.
