LOS ANGELES -- A portion of Corona del Mar State Beach was evacuated Sunday afternoon after a swimmer suffered "traumatic injuries" in a shark attack, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.
At around 4:10 p.m., a rescue boat picked up an injured woman, according to Battalion Chief Brent Jacobsen of the Fire Department, KTLA reported.
The victim's wounds were consistent with signs of a shark attack, Jacobsen said. A hospital spokesperson confirmed Monday afternoon that it was a shark attack.
Beachgoers were told not to go into the water as lifeguards searched for the shark, he added.
