Rattlesnake bites 8-year-old boy

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — An 8-year-old Valley Center boy was bitten by a rattlesnake Thursday night and airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

The call came in about 7:30 p.m., according to an Escondido fire and police dispatcher.

The boy’s family drove the child to the area of Lake Wohlford and Valley Center roads, where they were met by Escondido firefighters. The boy was flown by helicopter to Rady Children’s Hospital in Kearny Mesa.

It was unclear where the child was bitten, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The boy was listed in critical but stable condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Rady Children’s Hospital .
