Empty bucket prompts Coronado park investigation

A 5-gallon bucket found near a park bench caused authorities to close the park in Coronado Tuesday morning.

CORONADO, Calif. – A 5-gallon bucket found near a park bench caused authorities to close the park in Coronado Tuesday morning.

The bucket with lid on it was found next to a bus bench on the perimeter of Spreckels Park on Orange Avenue. San Diego Fire-Rescue, bomb squad and Hazmat crews investigated the suspicious object.

Police initially reported that the bucket contained liquid, but after removing it from the park around 11:15 p.m. they discovered nothing was inside.

The 600 block of Orange Avenue was blocked from traffic to allow authorities to investigate.
