CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Alex Rejto, a senior baseball captain and shortstop at Canyon Crest Academy, founded Champions Baseball, a league for special needs boys and girls in North County.

Each player has their own volunteer buddy with them at all times to teach, run the bases and cheer them on.

Over the past four years, the league has grown to 75 players and even picked up the Padres as supporters. The Friars have donated uniforms for the past two seasons.
