CARLSBAD, Calif. -- School officials warned La Costa-area families Friday about a possible child-abduction attempt that occurred Thursday in the area.

Around 2:25 p.m., a man approached a student walking home alone from La Costa Heights Elementary School on Levante Street and asked if he wanted a ride home, the Encinitas Union School District reported. The student said "no" and ran.
