ALPINE, Calif. - A community came together Sunday to honor the legacy of a football player who lost his battle with cancer while supporting another local athlete fighting a similar cause.

In Lyonhearted fashion, over 500 people joined in to celebrate the memory of Christian High football player Jason Lyon, who passed away from a rare form of cancer.

For the first time, the community played in a kickball tournament in Harbison Canyon Sunday to raise funds for pediatric brain cancer research.  The event was also supported another young athlete battling cancer - Cathedral Catholic's Brycen Newman.

The event raised over $25,000. A $10,000 check was given to the "Battle for Brycen" to help support the medical bills that come along with fighting cancer.

An online fundraiser continues to collect donations in the name of Jason Lyon.
