SAN DIEGO -- Veteran broadcaster Bob Chandler was a Petco Park Monday with his views on what fans can expect from the San Diego Padres this season.

Chandler, how broadcast for the team for more than three decades, said he expected great things from the Padres last year, but the team fell short when it came to defense.  He said the 2016 Padres are much sounder defensively than they were last year.

He declined to make any hard prediction about the Padres' home opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, nor did he say what he thought the team's chances are of making it to the World Series.

"Listen, right now, the Padres are tied for 1st (place), remember that," he said with a laugh.
