SAN DIEGO — San Diego police were trying to identify Wednesday two men who assaulted a motorist and stole his pickup truck at gunpoint.

The gunman got out of a burgundy SUV and ordered the 41-year-old victim out of his running 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck just as he finished parking alongside South 41st Street near National Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The victim tried to run away as the suspect was getting into his truck, but a second man got out of the SUV, chased him down and punched him in the face, Delimitros said. The victim was eventually able to get away.

The Ranger later turned up on nearby Ocean View Boulevard with its stereo missing, according to the officer.

Both suspects were described as Hispanic men in their 30s, about 5 feet 9 and 200 pounds. The gunman was wearing a black baseball cap, a T-shirt and black and white jeans. The other was said to have had on dark clothing.
