PINE VALLEY, Utah – Dramatic video of a daring wildlife rescue in the southern Utah wilderness has surfaced.

An employee of the state Division of Wildlife Resources taped himself and a colleague as they struggled to free an adult mountain lion which from a bobcat trap without injuring the animal or getting hurt themselves. The rescue operation took place in December 2015 but has only recently show up on YouTube, according to the Telegraph, an online news site in the United Kingdom.

Mark Ekins and the other man used catchpoles with rope loops at the ends to grab the cougar’s head and hind leg to immobilize the big cat. The frightened animal continued to struggle wildly until the men covered its head with a tarp.

Eventually, they were able to open the jaws of the trap. When they loosened the rope loops, the cougar took off like a bullet and quickly disappeared.
