SAN DIEGO — It was a close call Thursday night for local “American Idol” contestant Avalon Young.

The singer made San Diego proud last week when she made it gracefully into the show’s top 10.

This week, however, was a different story. The Tierrasanta native was saved in the final minutes of Thursday’s show by judge Jennifer Lopez.

Young beat out Olivia Rox and Gianna Isabella for the last spot in the top 8.

FOX 5 chatted with Young Friday morning about the gut-wrenching moments on stage before her name was called.
