RAMONA, Calif. -- A nondescript building is home to Ramona's first legal medical marijuana dispensary.

ShowGrow Ramona, located near the airport, just opened last week.

“The response from the community has been very positive. All our patients are thrilled we’re here," said manager Kira Hurtado.

But not everyone is thrilled, as building permits have been issued for two more dispensaries nearby and a permit for another is pending.

“I think a lot of us are holding our breath, hoping nothing bad happens," said Jim Piva, chairman of the Ramona Community Planning Group.

Piva said many are fearful of potential drivers, high on pot, navigating the curvy mountain roads.

"The roads into Ramona are not the safest. All it would take is one accident from somebody high on marijuana, not experienced driving these roads. People don't want that to happen," Piva said.

The Ramona Community Planning Group has the support of Supervisor Dianne Jacob in calling for a moratorium on any new dispensaries.

The County Board of Supervisors is expected to take up the issue at a meeting later this month.
